FSU BRINGS CHUCK AMATO BACK
Wire
1/17/07

Bobby Bowden has turned to his past one more time to complete the largest overhaul of his staff in 31 years at Florida State.

Chuck Amato is coming back after 18 years as a defensive assistant coach, 14 of them as assistant head coach. He held those positions before taking the head coaching job at North Carolina State after FSU's 1999 national-championship season.

Amato, 60, joins former FSU players Dexter Carter and Lawrence Dawsey as the newest staff members with FSU ties. And Amato is the fifth coach added to the staff this month. He joins offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher, offensive-line coach Rick Trickett, Dawsey (receivers) and Carter (running backs).

Amato was fired as North Carolina State's head coach after going 3-9 in 2006. He will take over his old position as linebackers coach and executive head coach. Amato was considered Bowden's right-hand man for administrative responsibilities during his first stint on the FSU staff.
